Art Tools for Multiple Disabled Students is 3 pages of tools to use when teaching art to special needs children.
(Multiple disabilities is a term for a person with several disabilities, such as a sensory disability associated with a motor disability.)
The children I work with are unable to grasp or hold things when asked, unable to control motor/verbal impulses and need assistance with everything. I made adaptive tools for them to wear/hold, while we hold and move their hands to make marks.
They do not appear to react to their art without multiple prompts, so it is hard to say if they get it.
As an art teacher, I was searching for new adaptive tools to use when engaging the students in painting, printmaking/stamping and clay. Art for multiple disabled students seems to be a little researched area in terms of adaptive tools and finding these resources ready-made seems difficult. There wasn’t an art for exceptional children methods class when I studied art education, so this is a whole new arena.
